Celebrate American Education Week

American Education Week – November 16-20 – presents a wonderful opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. This year’s theme is “Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility,” and will be reflected in special observances each day of the weeklong celebration.

Teacher leader law strengthens the profession, schools

Thanks to a new law, New Jersey teachers will be able to earn a teacher leader endorsement to their instructional certificates. Teacher leadership provides a model for schools that will allow teachers to lead from their classrooms. Teacher leaders are not doing the job of administrators; they will be advocates for the profession and student learning.  They will serve in positions where they help improve teacher practice and create a collaborative culture where decisions about schools and learning can be made with teachers, not above them.

NJEA Bill Signed into Law!!!

It’s true! S-1127, a bill initiated by NJEA, was signed into law. This bill will allow our members to negotiate contracts of up to five years in length. The new law is effective immediately. Staff will be meeting very soon to provide guidance regarding the new law so stay tuned for more information.

2013 Political Action Guide

Political Action Guide

Welcome to the new NJEA Political Action Guide. This guide updates the time-honored Legislative Program Guide that NJEA has published every winter for many years. The old guide provided members with a legislative “year in review” as well as a list of bills supported and opposed by the Association.

Take ActionNJEA has made learning about the issues easier and taking action effortless, with a new webpage that brings many pieces of the website to one convenient location. It’s titled simply, “Take Action,” and it’s accessible to members only under “Issues & Political Action.”
